SIMS Foundation Video Premiere for Austin Music Awards during SXSW
As we mentioned in our blog last month, we were commissioned by the SIMS Foundation in Austin to produce a 5 minute PSA to premiere at the Austin Music Awards. We spent a couple weeks in February filming great locations around town, including the Continental Club, Austin Music Hall, Gibson Guitar Room, City Hall and the Long Center. Additionally, we had access to many notable Austinites related to the music scene: Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Margaret Moser, Peter Bay, Rose Reyes, Jody Denberg, Ian McLagan, and featured performances by Kat Edmondson and Nakia.

We are very excited with the footage and the quality of interviews for the piece. We just finished up the rough cut and the final version will be premiering at the Austin Music Awards during SXSW on March 20. It has been an amazing experience working with an organization like SIMS and they deserve all the recognition they get for their involvement with local musicians. It has also been a great experience for us at Lucky Rabbit to make these great connections and have our video shown in front of thousands of people at one of Austin’s most celebrated event.

On another note, we just came up with a concept for the Austin Art Alliance for a commercial spot to run before and during Art Week Austin in April. We are working with the great team at lookthinkmake to help market and conceptualize the project. It is another great project for us to display to the Austin community.

In the mean time, our feature documentary and feature narrative are still in the works and we will keep you updated with the process.

Lucky Rabbit Films 2010 Update

A New Year is Upon us and Lucky Rabbit Films Has A Slate Full of Exciting Projects!!
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family. Now that the chaos is over, it is time to get back to the real world and power through 2010! I wanted to give everyone an update on what we have in store for the year and what you can expect to see from the Studio.

We continue to polish up the screenplay for our feature “Torture the Artist” that has been adapted from the novel by Joey Goebel. The website will be launched very soon, so please stand by to get all the information you need on our first feature film. We couldn’t be more excited to start the financing, casting and scheduling process for principal photography this fall.

Additionally, we have been commissioned by the SIMS Foundation in Austin to do a PSA about their services. The SIMS foundation is a very prominent non-profit in Austin that provides access to and financial support for mental health and addiction recovery services for Austin-area musicians and their families. We are very pleased to announce that the video will premiere during SXSW at the Austin Music Awards in March.

Most of you are familiar with the documentary we did in 2007 about the 1st National Rwandan Cycling Team. We had to put it on hold for awhile, but we recently cut a new trailer and some upcoming meetings will determine when and where this amazing story will be played.

We are also working on a few local commercials and a series of 5 short films called “Ozzy Presents: the 5.” Be sure to keep checking up on us, as we will have a lot of cool content to follow.

Check out whoisozzy.com and don’t be afraid to send me an email (ozzy@luckyrabbitfilms.com) to request stickers. We continue to get huge support around the world and I could not be happier to see myself in all these great photos.

Keep making moves my friends!

Ozzy moved us into a new space and we couldn’t be happier!
The time has come for us to move out of our sweat shop and look legit. Last week we settled into our new place in the heart of Austin called 501 Studios. We couldn’t be happier with the location, because it fits us to a T and surrounds us with friendly neighbors who are creatives like ourselves.

The pictures below show you the space as it looks now, but stay tuned for some photos of the space once it comes to completion. Our good friend and bad ass artist Chase will be decking out the white walls with Ozzy inspired art that will make the space truly ours.

Lucky Rabbit Films Developing Feature Film

Lucky Rabbit Films is currently developing a feature film based on the novel written by Joey Goebel titled Torture the Artist.
The $3.5 million film is a satirical drama, focusing on artistic freedom of choice in a society with a lack of integrity. The production team consists of Screenwriter/Author Joey Goebel, Director Ryan Scheer, Producer Andrew Johnston, Assistant Director Jeff Ray, Co-Producer Hunter Holder, Screenwriter Evan Greenberg and Director of Photography Matyas Erdely.

Joey Goebel, author/screenwriter is internationally known for his dark comedic novels, which include Torture the Artist, The Anomalies and Commonwealth. With his greatest success in Germany, Torture the Artist has sold nearly 100,000 copies and been translated into thirteen different languages. Goebel has personally been featured in Der Spiegal and Diezeit, the German equivalents to Newsweek and Time Magazine. Though Goebel, 28, has yet to gain such fame in his own country, he has a resume that most writers can only hope for in a lifetime.

Currently, Goebel is adapting his famed novel Torture the Artist into a screenplay that will be developed by Lucky Rabbit Films in to a feature film. The film follows the journey of a sensitive young romantic Vincent Spinetti, who falls victim to alienation, parental neglect, poverty, depression, alcoholism, illness, nervous breakdowns, unrequited love, and eventually becomes an archetypal tortured artist. Vincent is painfully unaware of the fact that these torments are due to secret manipulations of the jaded writer/ ex- musician Harlan Eiffler, who carries out the dirty work for New Renaissance, an experimental entertainment organization that is testing the age-old idea of art coming from suffering. Torture the Artist is anticipated to start production in the fall of 2010, with an expected release date in 2011.

Behind the scenes with Blowing Trees…

We are big believers in showing what happens behind the scenes on any shoot, so you can expect to see many more examples in the future. This behind the scenes is on the set of the music video for San Antonio based Blowing Trees. We had a great time with them and we wanted to give everyone out there a little piece of the process. Hopefully everyone has a little fun hanging out with Lucky Rabbit Films and understands the amount of awesome times we have.

We finished the final cut for the video Goblins this week. It was a quick turnaround, as we are hoping to get it played on VH1, MTVu, Fuse and Austins ME TV. Overall, the project was a complete success and we are stoked on the final project. I think deep down we all live vicariously through Rock bands, so it is always a great experience to work with them side by side. We will have the music video up within the next week, so look forward to getting your body in a psychedelic groove.

The Latest Update from Lucky Rabbit Films ... Love It People
We recently premiered our latest video Austin Bound for Kalu James, at his birthday performance in downtown Austin. Kalu is a Nigerian-born singer / songwriter, who has been in Austin for several years. He is really starting to create a buzz around Texas and has started to think about touring the country. We had a great time working with Kalu on the video and he has become a close friend of ours. Please check out the video on our home page and check out Kalu at www.kalujames.com.

Earlier this week we finished up our music video shoot for the song Leave Your Coat On by Jacqui Marland. She is a very talented singer / songwriter who has so much to look forward to in her future. Her soul / blues sound stems from a few of her influences like Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Ruth Brown. She was a blast to work with and she became quite the little actress when it was time for lights, camera and action. Her video will be up soon on our website, but please check out Jacqui at www.jacquimarland.com.

Over the course of the next month we will be shooting two more music videos to add to our arsenal. The first is for the very talented band Blowing Trees out of San Antonio. They have attracted a lot of attention with their rock / pop sound and have been featured in several magazines and radio spots. The video for Goblins will be marketed through MTVU and Fuse by their management team and record label. We shoot at the end of the month, so check back soon for more info. Until then please go to www.blowingtreesmusic.com.

The second video is for local solo artist Larissa Ness and her song Thoughts of You. Larissa brings a very unique sound to her album, combining jazz, pop and R&B. We have combined with Larissa to create a concept for the video and we are excited to get rolling. Check Larissa out at www.larissaness.com and leave her a message with your thoughts.

As most of you know, the main project we have been working on is adapting Torture the Artist from a novel to a screenplay. Joey Goebel has been working relentlessly on the screenplay and we received the latest draft at the end of March. The next draft will be ready in May to coincide with the business plan, marketing package and premiere of the 18 minute short film we produced, also written by Joey. We will be updating the blog very frequently as we move forward with the feature. After we finish these next music videos, our focus will be primarily on Torture the Artist and moving into pre-production at the end of 2009. It is something that you will definitely not want to miss!!

Until next time,

Happy Holidays everybody and sorry for not bugging you for awhile (although I am sure there are some of you who would rather not be bothered)!!!

Christmas time is always a time of cheer and everybody at Lucky Rabbit is extra cheerful at the moment, because things are starting to move forward on our first feature film “Torture the Artist”. Author Joey Goebel is set to begin writing the first draft of the screenplay within the next couple of weeks and the publisher MaCadam Cage just shipped us 50 fresh hard back copies of the novel. It is officially go time on this project and it has been a long time coming, so wish us the best of luck!

Other News…

* We have officially moved into our first office/warehouse and put it to use this week for a photo shoot and an interview with two different musicians/bands. We’ll make sure to post these projects as soon as they escape from the cutting room.

* Jacqui Marland is a timeless artist here in Austin who’s voice follows the path of types such as Aretha Franklin. She has come to Lucky Rabbit for a music video scheduled to be shot in February. Get ready for a Chicago like theme with a classic musical sound!

You always hear about all the gory details of pop musicians, movie stars and reality stars (although they are anything but stars)...but what about the other guys??? We figured it was about time to cover some real artists that live an everyday life like the rest of us. Come on in and check out a sneak preview of our new Artist Profile series.
This is only a rough version, so please give us any feedback. We would love to hear anything that could help the future of the show and, if you live in Austin, let us know if there is anyone you would like to see covered.
